House Republicans Want Bill Vetoed

April 25th, 2025 by WCBC Radio

Maryland’s House Republican Caucus has sent a letter to Governor Wes Moore asking for a veto of the Renewable Energy Certainty Act. Republicans point out that the legislation eliminates local control over solar project siting and threatens agriculture – Maryland’s largest commercial industry. House Minority Leader Jason Buckel says the bill unfairly targets rural areas for solar placement…

“Solar developers – they’re not going into Montgomery County, they’re not going into Baltimore City, they’re not going into Prince Georges County. They can’t get the space and the land at reasonable prices to allow them to do these projects. So they’re coming to Western Maryland, Southern Maryland, the Eastern Shore, some of the ex-urban counties in the I-95 corridor and they basically want to put solar panels everywhere.”
