Gap Users Financial Benefit To Community

December 24th, 2024 by WCBC Radio

A recap of users on the Great Allegheny Passage was given at the most recent Allegany County Commissioners meeting. Larry Brock of Mountain Maryland Trails passed along a check for $1500 to the commissioners and said that trail users may mostly be locals, but the hikers and bikers that come through on the GAP have a great impact on the area economy.  “There’s about 150,000 users a year on the GAP – about two thirds of them are we locals, but the other third -  about 50,000 people a year are other people. “OPMs” are what I call it – other people’s money – that come to town and spend a lot of money in our community. The estimated impact in 2020 was about $30 million dollars.”
