Recently, Dr. Ron Nowaczyk, President of Frostburg State University, sat down with WCBC’s Dave Norman for an interview. The two discussed a no-confidence vote by the campus faculty, a significant budget deficit, and how the college is working to recover financially. Included in the discussion were plans to reduce the number of faculty at the college. Nowaczyk said those cuts were not happening immediately…
“No one is losing their job as far as tenured faculty this year. They got at least a year and we’re hoping that as enrollment increases, we’ll be able to scale that back a little bit in terms of its impact.”
President Nowaczyk says part of the issue is that there are too many small classes right now…
“We have too many small classes right now and we’ve been running classes, – normally a faculty member should be teaching. We want to get them to be teaching about approximately 160 students a year and right now that number is about 130.”
