Former Baltimore Colts defensive end Roy Hilton has died, the Baltimore Ravens said Tuesday. He was 75.
"For nine years, Roy was a mainstay on a defense that helped the Colts earn two Super Bowl appearances, highlighted by their 1970 championship season," the Ravens said in a statement. "We remember Roy for the lasting contributions he made to Baltimore's rich football history, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family at this time."
Hilton spent nine of his 11 professional seasons with the Colts, playing for Baltimore in Super Bowl III and Super Bowl V. The Colts won the latter, the first post-merger league championship.
Hilton, the grandfather of New York Jets outside linebacker Brandon Copeland (Gilman), settled in Randallstown and worked for 20 years as a security officer at Johns Hopkins University. He retired in 2007 and went to every Ravens home game with his neighbor, former Colts halfback Lenny Moore, according to a 2011 interview with The Baltimore Sun.
