The Cumberland Mayor and City Council heard information about new speed cameras being installed around the city at Tuesday’s work session. Erwin Lanier from Redspeed made the point that across the state, speed cameras have been beneficial…
“Across the state alone, since the inception in 2011 with automatic speed enforcement, fatalities dropped 35% so it’s a factual thing, it’s not hearsay, it’s not them hoping so we see that considerable drop in everything from speeding to accidents to fatalities in every jurisdiction that we’re in.”
Bob Super, a Principal at Redspeed, addressed how the system will financially benefit the city, citing local studies showing locations throughout Cumberland with speed issues…
“We make sure our system is structured so at least 60% of the revenues generated from the program goes where it belongs – the municipalities, the government, the taxpayers and they can use if for law enforcement or whatever the statute provides.”
