On Saturday, April 12, 2025 at approximately 12:02 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the first block of Columbia Street for an assault in progress. Police arrived on scene and observed a male and female in an active disturbance. The male, who was identified as Eric Brewington, was detained due to his behavior that had attracted the attention of multiple people in the area. Brewington was arrested and transported to police headquarters. After further investigation, police learned that Brewington had assaulted the other party involved. Officers observed that the victim had sustained injuries. Brewington was later seen by a District Court Commissioner and posted a $2,500 unsecured personal bond.
