The City of Cumberland’s Police Officer of the Year is relatively new to the force.  At a recent Mayor and City Council meeting, Police Chief Chuck Ternent made the announcement that Patrolman First Class Austin Groves had won honor of Officer of the Year. Chief Ternent said that Groves attended the Carroll County Police Academy and had just joined the force in August of 2022…

  

“Let’s put this in a little bit of perspective – He was hired, got through his training and field training, and he’s actually only been on the streets for like two years. So, for him to accomplish the Officer of the Year in this short of time is a significant accomplishment. You can be very proud of that.”
