The Allegany County board of Elections held a public hearing Monday night to go over proposed consolidation of voting sites within the city of Cumberland. The proposal shows that seven polling locations will be discontinued with the closed sites being rolled into Fort Hill High School, Braddock Middle School, and Allegany High School. Diane Libel, Election Administrator for the county, said that various factors went into the proposal including ADA compliant locations, distance between polling locations, and simply the number of people needed to run the sites.
Senator Mike McKay attended the hearing and encouraged the public to get involved with the polls as an election official which is a paid position.
